What I loved most about belonging to a three year outdoor based home-ed community was the shared learning and growth within the beauty of nature.
The richness of co-creation and celebration!
Being based mainly outdoors, connecting to nature all year round, though out all the seasons.
And nothing beats the wild beauty of the Somerset countryside in my opinion!
I really want more of this.
Community.
Nature.
Connection.
In fact I’m longing for it!
I’ve just got back from the NVC Community Camp, south west, where we spent the week recreating the village, in all its richness and colour. The village really did contribute to raising our children, and raising ourselves. Our cups were filled, and our capacity to care widened.
Now I am sat back here in my home, and again I feel the loss.
The absence of a community embedded in nature where we sing, dance, rest, play, cry, listen, share, and connect.
A deeper connection. One that values authentic expression. One that listens… and really hears.
Connecting with others, connecting with nature, sinking deeper into connection with ourselves.
Last month I absolutely thrived during a week long Nature Facilitation Training in Dartmoor. Just 20 adults co-creating the village. We shared our love of nature through workshops and songs, games and healing, conversations that matter.
I now feel an intense desire to bring more people out into nature, to connect on a deeper level through creativity, sharing, celebration and play!
ourPACE, home-ed initiative stood for ‘Playful And Collaborative Education’. It was more than just for the children. It was a whole family experience. A community that mattered.
I intend to hold a new space for home-educating families, one day a week during term times. Likely in Wraxall near my home. Realistically to begin early October, as I need to secure a site, etc…
What is really important to me is that it is a space that is welcoming to whole families. AND, in particular, is a nourishing space for parents.
Kind of like an adults forest school where children are welcome!
In fact, children are encouraged to be as free as they can, enjoying natures playground, with access to their care-giver whenever they need it.
In support of this freedom, I’d like to employ a mentor to inspire play, creativity and connection in the children, not only for their benefit, also to allow a little more ease for the parents to relax together. Sink deeper.
… and so while your children play, I will facilitate an invitational space for the adults to connect through play, creativity and conversation.
Do you catch my drift?
The idea is a nourishing family space where adults can fill their cup, (both in the practical sense and metaphorically!), within the beautiful vessel that nature is.
Invitational activities. Adults and children welcome in either space. Freedom to access to each other as needed. Slightly more adult orientated space held by me. Plus a slightly more child-centered space held by a trusted mentor.
AND whole group seasonal community celebrations!
I’m so excited!
I can't wait to be back at the fireside, or with my toes in the stream, or barefoot tree climbing, or with mud on my fingers... Flowing freely. Gently energising. Within nature. Within community.
I long to be back in a nourishing nature community.
I’d love to hear from you if you feel an affinity for this kind of space!
